Luke & Carrie's Bad Rapport: Episode #005 - Burping Is Eternal
I’m sorry, I really am… This episode is 1 hour and 43 minutes long. It was an accident. In my defense, there are 4 songs, the last of which at the tail end of the episode is actually a 10 minute medley of all the songs from the movie “Joe’s Apartment”. The others are by the Chris Waffle Experience, Paul & Storm, and Carrie’s vocal octet, Nothing But Treble. In this episode we contemplate musical stinger themes for the segments of our show, Carrie talks about her trip to Vienna, Austria, Luke rants incessantly about the perceptions of certain children’s movies and calls you all a bunch of f***ing a**holes (again, I’m sorry). There’s also News of the Stupid, Carrie talks some smack about an unnamed celebrity, and some tales of ignorance in which Luke reveals how gullible he was in his mid-20s. Oh, and here’s a link to Smitecast, because Carrie decreed that I put one here. I promise, the episodes will be shorter in the future. Really, I do.

Yeah, the state senate of New York voted down the gay marriage bill yesterday. Delaying the inevitable, perpetuating discrimination and inflicting religious beliefs on people by law. But at least one good thing came out of it.
I found about State Senator Diane Savino, who gave an amazing speech when she voted for the bill:
I giveth not the slightest defecation regarding L'Affaire de Tiger. (Several l'affaires, apparently. Or lays affaire. Or somethin'.) However, I am amused and annoyed at a news item today.
Before I tell you, understand that, around the corner from my place, there is a gas station which has a sticker on every pump, asking you to "Please Prepay In Advance".
huskiebear has noted the sign that says "Fresh Jerky".
Well, today we are informed that Tiger Woods' wife Elin is renegotiating her prenup.
[pinches bridge of nose]
Look, lady (and her spokesperson, and the various lawyers, and Jay Busbee, the guy who wrote the article). It's a prenuptial agreement. That means it's nailed down before the wedding, which was five years ago. Changing the terms now may be called any of several things, but I seriously don't think "prenuptial" is among them.
I dunno, though. Maybe I'm so isolated from these things that people renegotiate prenups all the time. I'm not a lawyer... just a relatively literate person.
Of course, the biggest crime is that this shit is all over the news media rather than the escalation in Afghanistan (there's a bumper sticker you may have seen, which says, "It is impossible to simultaneously prevent and prepare for war"), the continued gutting of the health care bill, the still-hideous unemployment numbers, the impending running-out of unemployment benefits, the lack of H1N1 vaccine... noooooo, the breaking news is Tiger fuckin' Woods. (The FuMP will have something to say about that tomorrow, by the way.)
Thoughts?
I'm in a rather silly mood today. Tonight's two hour show should be interesting.
I made a Facebook Gallery of my trip to Trip to Washington, DC, which can be seen by anyone. I think I'll laze out (laze in?) and not make separate LJ pics. And I'll only do a bit of a trip report.
Tuesday before Thanksgiving. I arrive at National, then go pick up my nephew Jake in another terminal an hour or so later. We call my brother's house to let them know we're coming. Sister-in-law Patty and niece Tua have just come back from Italy (delayed a day) and are too tired to receive visitors that late. Mom agrees to meet us at the B&B we're staying at. Jake and I cab in, getting there just before 11pm.
Usually, we can grab a snack at Joe's or order take out from nearby, but they've gone to sleep and DC closes. I haven't had anything to eat since an early lunch and Jake is a teenager. We walk down Connecticut until we get to the main plaza around the Woodley/Zoo Metro stop. If those places are closed, we're doomed. This, alas, is the case. My mother has the idea that the Marriott's dining room is open. We get to the hotel after 11. Not only is the restaurant closed, but the bar is closed. Sheesh.
Being my mother, she old-lady's the head bartender into giving us some cereal and milk. The cash register is closed, so they can't charge us anything. Mom nibbles while Jake and I wolf down the food in the bar lounge. When I got back to Mpls, I called up the Marriott and spoke to someone in HR, thanking the bartender and the whole staff for saving the life of people from three different states.
After Thanksgiving. I remember it's my avuncular duty -- my obligation -- to be a little subversive. I spend a day or so teaching my 2 3/4-year-old niece Tua the word "lilliputian". She used it (correctly!) a few times before I left. Will it take? We shall see.
Sunday, heading home. The Textile Museum is nearby Joe's place, the exhibits change a lot and mom likes to go. From there, the guy at the front desk calls us a cab. It happens to be the DC Karaoke Cab. There's a sign up, taped to the back of the front seat, about the cab (and the YouTube link, above). I ask about it. He starts singing.
This is why I carry around my interview kit. I pull out my iPod-with-a-microphone and camera. I miss the beginning of his song stylings, but catch the rest and take a few pictures. For your edification, I have edited it in two forms: The Karaoke Cab sings to Dave and Ethel and the more full audio, including the songs to me and mom, The Karaoke Cab sings us to Union Station.
I was checking the NASA pages for follow-up to the Atlantis mission and found this great compilation of video images put to music and original sound for the recent STS-129 mission.
STS-129 Ascent Highlights Twelve and a half minutes worth of viewing and sound, including launch prep, launch, and separation of boosters and tank.
This was released yesterday.
Hope I got the links set up right for you all.
What do you think?
Back in 2006 Rick Stringer and Matt Wallace put out a series of short audio dramas called The Failed Cities Monologues on their sci-fi/fantasy/horror podcast Variant Frequencies. It was one story told from multiple perspectives and they asked me to do the voice of one of their characters- Sterne.
In 2007 Matt Wallace wrote a new story set in the Failed Cities for Christmas of that year called Hath A Darkness. This year they have decided to produce new audio for Hath A Darkness and have asked me to reprise my roll of Sterne.
Episode 1: Ethan was posted on December 1st. The stories will continue to come out twice a week until Christmas Day. I believe my story is episode 3.
You can download this story at http://www.variantfrequencies.com or look them up on iTunes. Definitely check it out. The Failed Cities Monologues was an awesome story. I can't wait to hear what he did with Hath A Darkness.

Aside from the Music Guest Of Honor, MarsCon doesn’t have the budget necessary cover the hotel or travel costs of the dozen or so comedy music acts that come in from across the country to perform at MarsCon. The members of the con staff are awesome, and they help us out in many other great and important ways, but being a fan run con of 800 or so attendees, they just can’t provide our dementia track performers with leer jets, limo rides, and an unlimited supply of bacon (no matter how many times I ask them for the bacon). That’s why three years ago we started the MarsCon Dementia Track Fund Raiser CDs, which is set up to raise money to cover the hotel room costs for those acts who are coming in from out of town, as a way to help take care of at least one of the two big costs involved for them to come out and rock the house.
Here’s what he have for this year:
The MarsCon 2010 Dementia Track Fund Raiser: 3-CD set - $30.00
(An optional MP3 download of all tracks is included with purchase. Price includes shipping)
http://marscondementia.com/products-pag
The MarsCon 2010 Dementia Track Fund Raiser: MP3 Download Only - $20.00
(Contains all the tracks from the CD version. Length: just under 4 hours)
http://marscondementia.com/products-pag
The set is comprised of tracks recorded live at MarsCon 2009, and includes music by Rob Balder, Possible Oscar, Positive Attitude, The Nick Atoms, Devo Spice, Worm Quartet, Power Salad, the great Luke Ski, MC Lars, The Feng Shui Ninjas, Wally Pleasant, participants in the Dementia Fan Showcase, DJ Particle, Carrie Dahlby, Marc Gunn, W. Randy Hoffman, Beth Kinderman, Soggy Potato Chips, and Insane Ian.
If you're interested in hearing a PREVIEW of the 2010 Fund Raiser set, I've created a special 30 minute PodCast that you can listen to and/or download for free here:

We also still have CD & MP3 sets available from 2009, 2008, & 2007’s Fund Raisers at MarsCon Dementia.com.
Thanks for ordering and supporting the MarsCon Dementia Track. :)

Show 26: Hitler Means Quality
Dec. 4, 2009 (52:46)
http://bigassradio.blogspot.com
In the first of what's likely to be several Christmas shows, Randy is joined by Dementia Radio megastar Carrie Dahlby for a rousing discussion about perverted Germans, Hitler, boobs, Vienna sausages, small brown spiders, disdain for Dean Koontz, the single-mindedness of the late Michael Crichton, and other Christmas-y things. It's a must-hear, especially if there's a gun pointed to your head and the person with the gun says "you must hear this".
If nothing else, "yule" enjoy the humorous Christmas music from Rycehat, Max DeGroot, Paul and Storm, and Jonathan Coulton.
